Barapullah Phase-III report on May 10

Sunday, 28 April 2013 | Rajesh Kumar | New Delhi

Delhi Government’s Public Works Department (PWD) is in the process of preparing a detailed report for the third phase of its state-of-the-art and highly successful Barapullah elevated road connecting INA market to Mayur Vihar Phase I crisscrossing through a new Yamuna bridge proposed between DND flyover and Nizamuddin bridges.

The department is expected to make a presentation for the third phase before the engineering experts’ body Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning & Engineering) Centre (UTTIPEC) on May 10.

According to PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, the PWD is all set to make a detailed presentation for the third phase of Barapullah project on May 10 before the UTTIPEC members. “The department has decided to take approval from the UTTIPEC before appointing consultant for the third phase. The PWD has earlier submitted the preliminary roadmap for the third phase to the UTTIPEC for its approval,” said Chauhan. In a related development, the PWD has submitted a fresh plan to the planning body UTTIPEC for the termination of Barapullah phase II on Aurobindo Marg.

The extension of Barapullah road to east Delhi will ease traffic congestion on Nizamuddin bridge and DND flyover besides facilitating faster connectivity thereby benefiting those traveling between East and South Delhi as they will be able to avoid the congestion on Ring Road by cutting down travel time.

According to Chauhan, a Pune-based institute will conduct a hydraulic study for proposed bridge after which the plan will be submitted to DUAC and Yamuna committee for clearance.

Motorists using the extended road stretch will be able to descend near Mayur Vihar Phase I Metro Station. Similarly, those heading towards Sarai Kale Khan can climb onto Barapullah road near the Metro station. Phase III will involve the construction of six loops (along with the main Barapullah extension) between Mayur Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan. Two loops will link the extension to Ring Road wherein one will ascend from Ring Road near Sarai Kale Khan and connect to Barapullah road and the second will descend from the elevated road to facilitate motorists coming from Mayur Vihar to Ashram.

Apart from this, another two loops will connect the East Delhi extension of Barapullah road to Akshardham and Noida. While one loop will descend from Barapullah road towards Akshardham and IP Extension for vehicles travelling towards Mayur Vihar, another loop will ascend to Barapullah road on the carriageway towards Sarai Kale Khan and beyond making travel easier for motorists coming from Noida side on the eastern fringes of the national capital.

“The upcoming flyover running parallel to the existing one in Mayur Vihar will be linked to Barapullah road with another two loops. Whereas, the one link will allow commuters to descend to Noida link road and enter Mayur Vihar Phase I and the other can be used by vehicles coming from Mayur Vihar Phase 1 to climb the flyover going towards Akshardham and IP Extension,” he added.
