XlRI increases seats of Business Management programme

Friday, 12 April 2013 | Parvinder Bhatia | Jamshedpur

The new batch of XlRI’s Business Management programme will have 180 students this time which is more than the previous batch which had 120. The new academic session that will begin from June 14 will have increased number of students.

The B-school has increased the seats in Business Management, the flagship course by 60 from the session 2013-15. The human resource management (HRM) course which has 120 seats will not be increased as of now.

XlRI submitted three proposals to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) which included the Global MBA Programme, increase in seats for BM and HRM. However, as AICTE could only approve two proposals in one year, BM was taken into consideration.

According to information XlRI had increased its seats from 60 to 120 each in BM and HRM in 2009. The incomplete construction work for XlRI’s expansion behind the existing campus is posing a hurdle to not increase the seats in HRM.

The Rs 50 crore project had come to a standstill for the Tata sub lease problem last year. According to the officials the work has got delayed.

XlRI officials informed that the new construction that has been undertaken will include a seven-storey hostel block with 380 single rooms, a seven-storey international hostel with 100 single rooms, a three-storey academic building that will have 17 classrooms and two training halls

When contacted a professor went on to add that XlRI’s programme on management and human resource are the result of approach to enhance the human resource and create integrative thinking towards the business

“We have recognised the need for an increased emphasis on promoting human resource. Tatent in resources-rich but economically poor states like Jharkhand needs to be promoted,” he noted.

It may be mentioned that XlRI was founded in 1949 by Fr Quinn Enright, S.J. in Jamshedpur. Fr. Enright visualised XlRI to be a partner in the liberation and development journey of the independent India with a vision of “renewing the face of the earth”. Fr. Bill Tome joined hands with him to bring that vision to fruition. Both, together with the other Jesuit companions, worked tirelessly towards translating the Vision “Renewing the face of the earth” into action.

Over many years XlRI has developed its own identity. The B-school has expanded its reach over the years.
