The State Government’s major convention centre, Jayadev Bhawan here, will be converted into a multi-storey complex.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday laid the foundation stone of the complex, which would have a library, a mini auditorium and a big dining hall.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Information and Public Relations, Pradeep Kumar Jena said `5.25 crore would be spent on the proposed building for which `1.80 crore has been budgeted for the current financial year.
The extended Jayadev Bhawan would have a 12,000 sqft of parking area at the basement and 7,200 sqft of dining space in the ground floor, he said. The conference hall with 7,200 sqft and the library with 8,102 sqft would be built in the first and second floor, respectively, he added.
Floating of tender for the annex has already begun and the building is expected to be completed within 15 months, said Jena.
The Jayadev Bhawan, established in 1976, was earlier named as the Soochana Bhavan and is managed by Ithe nformation and Public Relations Department.
The present auditorium having a seating capacity of 377 is by far a major convention centre where Government and non-Government programmes are held almost every day.
