Aiming to provide health insurance coverage to farmers, the State Government kicked off the Biju Krushak Kalyan Yojana (BKKY) at Khamara village near Pallahara of Angul district on Tuesday.
The new scheme, launched by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik would be implemented in all 30 districts in two phases. The programme would be made operational by creating three zones, South, Central and North.
“While each beneficiary will pay a premium of `30 per annum, the insurance cover will be of `30,000, Agriculture Minister Debi Prasad Mishra told reporters after the
meeting. Stating that about six lakh farmers would get the benefit, Mishra added the beneficiaries include the head of the household, his spouse and three dependents. The Government has earmarked `100 crore for implementation of the scheme, he said.
