The Odissi Research Centre (ORC) dedicated a cultural evening in memory of renowned violin player and music composure late Bhubaneshwar Mishra at the Rabindra Mandap here on Saturday.
The evening commenced with chorus and duet songs Swara Jati and Rase Hari from Geeta Govinda presented by ORC students followed by performances by veteran singer Shyamamani Devi, Suramani Ramesh Chandra Das and violinist Sarada Prasanna Das.
Born in July 15, 1927, Pandit Bhubaneshwar Mishra is considered as the soul of Odissi music. One of the most prolific violinists and Odissi music composers in India, he has created many masterpieces in his creative lifespan.
This great musical personality passed away on May 7, 1993.
Many noted personalities, including Odissi dancer Priyambada Mohanty Hejmadi, veteran singers Arati Mishra, Chittaranjan Malia and Sangeeta Goasin and new talents of classical dance and music gathered in reverence of Pandit Bhubaneshwar Mishra.
