Arang-Raipur toll road too dangerous to travel

Thursday, 25 April 2013 | SR | Raipur

The safety of commuters travelling on the under construction 4-lane road between Arang and Raipur has become a major cause of concern specially after the reports of all the seven over bridges constructed on the road are leaning towards the ground came to light.

Travelling on this road is proving a nightmare thanks to inconveniences outnumbering the facilities. For all the sufferings of Raipur people, collusion of Public Works Department officials with the road contractor DS Construction Company is responsible, charged president of Vyapar Prakosht of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee Kanhaiya Agrawal.

Addressing a Press conference on Tuesday along with CGPCC secretary Amit Pandey and Nischaya Bajpayee of Nagrik Sangharsh Samiti, Agrawal charged that DS Construction Company in collusion with PWD officials has constructed the most controversial and sub-standard road. When the report of Priyadarshini Nagar over bridge leaning downward came to light the company allegedly put up a beam from inside to support it. Condition of other over bridges constructed on this road is more or less the same all posing danger to the lives of commuters travelling on this stretch, Agrawal charged and demanded a CBI probe into the irregularity

committed in construction of this multi-crore road.

He also demanded that all the overbridges constructed by the company should be constructed afresh after

dismantling the existing one as they are dangerous enough

to travel.

Agrawal also accused PWD officials of helping the company in building the road unauthorisedly as time extension given to it by National Highway Authority of India has ended four years ago.

According to Agrawal while the railways declared the overbridge constructed by the same company substandard, the PWD department of the State Government gave it clean-chit and granted orders for construction of toll plaza despite stiff

opposition of public.
