Khirwar appointed as DIG in CBI

Chandigarh: Haryana Government has placed the services of  Sandeep Khirwar, IPS, Deputy Inspector General, CID at the disposal of Government of India for appointment as Deputy Inspector General in Central Bureau of Investigation. 

Haryana CM given Rs 30 lakh cheque  

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh was presented with a cheque of Rs. 30 lakh by Agriculture Minister Paramvir Singh for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund here on Wednesday to help those affected from the recent devastation in Uttarakhand. The amount is the contribution of one day salary of the staff of Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board. Minister of State for Agriculture Sukhbir Kataria, Additional Principal Secretaries to Chief Minister S.S Dhillon and Dr. K.K. Khandelwal, amongst others were present on this occasion.

Dogra’s debut book to be released

Chandigarh: Chandigarh literary Society and Penguin India would organise the book release of Chandra Suta Dogra’s debut book Manoj and Babli: A Hate Story on Friday. Sumita Misra, Chairperson ClS, said the book is a painstakingly researched book on honour killing of Manoj and Babli of Haryana and its aftermath. Dogra, a senior journalist, has covered north India for two decades. She has travelled extensively in the heartlands of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir for investigative reporting on issues ranging from caste and women to the agricultural crisis.

HDFC Bank opens two branches in HP

Shimla: HDFC Bank has opened two branches in Himachal Pradesh. One branch is located in Chamba and the other is located in Jassur, a village in the Kangra District.HDFC Bank is one of the first new-generation private sector banks to set up a branch in these locations. The branch in Chamba will cater to the local population of approximately 20,000 and is located at Zero Point, Bharmour Road. In the village of Jassur the branch is located on the Pathankot-Manali highway, Opposite PNB Jassur Tehsil, Nurpur, Kangra District.   With these launches, the Bank now has 37 branches in the state. On June 30, 2013, the Bank had a distribution network with 3,119 branches and 11,088 ATMs in 1,891 cities and towns.

Int’l Boxing player calls on HP CM

Shimla:  Kumari Pema Chhotan, Heavy Weight Boxer from Himachal Pradesh who represented India in the International Golden Gloves Boxing Championship at Serbia and won Silver Medal met Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh with Secretary General of Indian Boxing Federation, Rajesh Bhandari and Secretary General H.P. Boxing Association, Surinder Shandil on Monday.  Bhandari apprised  the Chief Minister that Pema Chhotan & Shashi Negi both from HP represented India in International Boxing Meet held at Serbia. Bhandari urged the Chief Minister to open an academy and sports hostel for boxing players in the State so that the players could get best facilities and game could be promoted.

Dr Katoch appointed as Vice Chancellor

Shimla: Dr. Krishan Kumar Katoch, Director, Extension Education, Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, (CSKHPKV), Palampur  has been appointed as Vice Chancellor of CSKHPKV for a period of three years or attaining 65 years of age whichever was earlier.

Bank launches ‘Plant a Sapling’ initiative

Chandigarh: Axis Bank has launched ‘Plant a Sapling’ initiative under its Green Banking program. In this initiative, the bank will plant over One lakh saplings in over 1,000 locations across the country. The bank has invited its customers to support the initiative. Rajiv Anand, President, Retail Banking, Axis Bank said, “Green Banking is embedded in our philosophy and culture. Over the past two years, Axis Bank has propagated it as a part of its endeavor to help protect the environment. We are doing our best to ensure that most of our operational, procurement and consumption practices are environment friendly.”

Income tax returns deadline extended

Chandigarh: Ajay Jagga, Advocate, has thanked the Finance Ministry for extending the last date for filing income-tax returns by five days to August 5. The date has been extended in wake of “unprecedented rise” in number of income-tax returns being filed online. In order to ensure the convenience of tax payers the govt has extended the last date. It has been learnt that this year about 9 million returns have been electronically filed, which is 46.8 percent higher than the returns e-filed during the corresponding period last fiscal. In fact due to the last minute rush the website of the government went slow, so it was becoming impossible to upload the returns electronically as many times refused to move further.

Smart pacemakers now in city beautiful

Chandigarh: For the first time in Chandigarh and Punjab region, Cardiologist Dr R K Jaswal has introduced the smartest pacemaker ever, “Altrua 60 Pacemaker.” He believes that this will improve the quality of patient’s life and ability to maintain the normal life even after having the pacemaker implanted. Dr Jaswal Director, Intervention Cardiology, Fortis Hospital Mohali, said, “To implant this pacemaker, we have to be very sure of the fixing of position of sensor electrode built on the pacemaker which only few physicians in the country can do.

Two PGI doctors bag awards

Chandigarh: Two doctors from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, have been awarded with the National Academy of Medical Sciences award. Dr Kim Vaiphei, professor, department of histopathology, has been awarded with the prestigious Dr RM Kasliwal Award for 2013 by National Academy of Medical Sciences. Similarly, Dr Bikash Medhi, additional professor, department of pharmacology, PGIMER, has been honored with Dr VK Bhargava award.

UT to celebrate world breast feeding week

Chandigarh: The Social Welfare Department, U.T. Chandigarh is celebrating the International Breastfeeding week from August 1 to 7, 2013 as per the guidelines of Government of India by organizing various program in collaboration with the Food and Nutrition Board, During the week various competitions/ceremonies like Recipes Competition,, Quiz Competitions for mothers, Annaparasham Ceremony, film Show, skit dance on Infant Young Child Feeding guidelines will be organized. A State level Symposium will be organized for the ICDS functionaries of U.T, Punjab and Haryana on August 7 at Community Centre, Food and Nutrition Board, Sector 23, Chandigarh.

Workshop on ‘Business Process Simulation’

Chandigarh: One day workshop on “Business Process Simulation” was organized by Training and Placement Cell of CCET, Sector-26, Chandigarh at computer centre of the college on Wednesday. Faculty from XlRI, Professor DS Broca, Professor, Production and Quantitative Techniques, XlRI Jamshedpur was the key speaker. During the 4 hour interactive session with students of various streams Professor Broca discussed various case studies with students and tools to solve the problems through simulation methods. At end of the session Dr MS Gujral, Principal CEET presented memento to Professor Broca and thanked him for sharing his valuable suggestion.
