West Bengal set for big investments, says Adhikari

Gone are the days when Bengal was not called to the ball. With no communists or Mamata Banerjee around, the State is expecting big-ticket investments in days to come, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said on Tuesday.
Euphoric after Monday’s talks with Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani, the Chief Minister said that the State was expecting “big visionary investments” that would not only bring thousands of jobs but also put the region’s moribund economy back on track.
Adhikari, who on Monday evening met Mukesh Ambani and his son Anant Ambani in their Mumbai residence, said, “expect huge visionary investment in Bengal... The communists and Mamata Banerjee did great harm to the State’s economy... Thank God they are gone... Now the entire country is ready to see investments coming to the State... Now Bengal will get what it truly deserves... Wait for some time and you will see how things unfold before you.” The Chief Minister was on a two-day tour of North Bengal.
Referring to his whirlwind trip to Antilia on Monday evening said, “Earlier I was invited by the Ambani family during the Ganesh Puja but I could not make it... So I visited yesterday and received a warm reception and had dinner with the family where a lot of things were discussed,” adding, “we are expecting big visionary investment in Bengal.”
He, however, would not dwell on reported investment proposals by the Ambanis in the Vantara (animal rescue centre) project in North Bengal or Purulia or Bankura district in the Jangalmahal area.
“Wait. please hold patience... You will see with your own eyes when things start coming... We have received commitment from all quarters,” he said, adding he was also scheduled to have a meeting with the Adani top functionaries of the group come to Kolkata during a groundbreaking ceremony of a proposed 2000-bed hospital at Rajarhat New Town area. The foundation laying ceremony is likely to be held on Thursday.
Apart from the Vantara project, the State was expecting investment in a semiconductor hub and other IT-related areas of the State. Apart from the Ambanis, the chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, Kumar Mangalam Birla to had expressed his desire to invest in the State, Bengal BJP chief Samik Bhattacharya earlier said. “Soon there may be a meeting between the Chief Minister and Kumar Mangalam Birla,” Bhattacharya said.
