Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan appreciated The Pioneer for its thoughtful article, “Instilling Civic Discipline through the Wisdom of the Tirukkural.”
The article highlights how the timeless teachings of Thiruvalluvar’s Tirukkural can promote civic discipline and responsible behaviour in contemporary society. It draws attention to values such as self-control, righteous conduct, responsible speech, compassion, truthfulness, social responsibility and good governance.
The article also connects these teachings with everyday civic concerns, including road discipline, public behaviour, queue-jumping, road rage and responsible social-media discourse. It emphasises that the principles of the Tirukkural can help foster respect, responsibility, tolerance and social harmony.
