India retain Asian Games compound archery gold, equal world record
The Indian women's compound archery team defeated China 238-234 on Wednesday and retain its Asian Games gold medal with a world record-equalling score.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep combined to dominate the final and secure the gold medal for India.
The Indian trio equalled the world record set by South Korea at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
China's Wunier, Yue Wang and Fangyao Wei took the silver, while South Korea's Park Jungyoon, Park Yerin and Kang Yeonseo defeated Chinese Taipei to claim the bronze medal.
India made a strong start in the final, winning the opening end 60-58 after producing a series of perfect 10s.
The defending champions continued to dominate, taking the second end 60-58 to extend their lead before consolidating their position further at 178-176 heading into the final end.
China faltered under pressure with two 9s, while India produced another perfect round featuring six 10s to secure the title and match the world record.
The victory gave India its seventh gold medal at the ongoing Asian Games.
India had defeated South Korea 234-233 to reach the final at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park here.
The Indian women's compound team had also won gold at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, where India secured five gold medals in archery. (with inputs from PTI)
