VCK Announces Support To Vijay’s TVK In Tamil Nadu Government Formation

The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) on Saturday announced its support to actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay and his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the ongoing government formation process in Tamil Nadu.
According to party sources, VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan is set to formally announce the decision, ending days of speculation over the party’s political stand after the fractured verdict in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The VCK, which secured two seats in the Assembly polls, is expected to submit a formal letter of support in the format requested by TVK to help Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar invite Vijay to form the government.
The development comes amid continuing uncertainty over who will eventually form the next government in the State, with no single party crossing the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly.
Meanwhile, five Congress MLAs from Tamil Nadu were reportedly shifted to Hyderabad amid concerns over possible poaching attempts as political negotiations intensified.
Separately, a report released by the Association for Democratic Reforms and Tamil Nadu Election Watch revealed that 126 winning candidates in the Assembly elections have criminal cases pending against them.
The report stated that TVK topped the list, with 41 MLAs-elect declaring pending criminal cases in their election affidavits.
The latest support from VCK is expected to strengthen TVK’s claim to form the government as political discussions continue among various parties and alliance partners in the State.
