Delhi BJP launches week-long Tiranga Yatra across districts
The Delhi BJP on Sunday, August 9, launched a week-long Tiranga Yatra campaign across the city as part of Independence Day celebrations, with thousands of party workers and leaders participating in marches across several districts.
The campaign, to be held from August 9 to 15, will see Tiranga Yatras organised across all district areas and several mandals, the party said in a statement.
Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra will take part in a Tiranga Yatra in the Chandni Chowk district on Monday, according to the statement.
The campaign is being coordinated under the guidance of BJP Delhi general secretary Vishnu Mittal, while a large number of youth workers joined the marches under the leadership of BJP Yuva Morcha president Rajat Chaudhary.
In the New Delhi district, the yatra was led by BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj and district president Ravindra Chaudhary. It began at Pilanji village and concluded at Greater Kailash M Block Market. Several BJP leaders, including MLA Neeraj Basoya, councillors and district office-bearers, took part in the march, the statement said.
In West Delhi, a yatra began at Dholi Piau under the leadership of BJP national general secretary Arun Singh and MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat, and ended at Tilak Nagar police station. Delhi ministers Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Ashish Sood, along with MLAs, councillors and party workers, joined the march.
Another yatra was held in North-West Delhi, beginning at Bhagwan Parshuram Chowk in Rohini Sector 11 and ending at Jhanda Chowk in Sector 16. The march was led by MP Yogendra Chandolia and attended by Delhi minister Ravinder Indraj Singh, Mayor Pravesh Wahi, MLAs and other BJP leaders.
Swaraj said the Tiranga Yatra was aimed at taking the spirit of patriotism to households across the city. "The Tricolour is not merely a piece of cloth; it is a symbol of respect for our martyrs and the unity of 1.4 billion Indians," she said.
Sehrawat said the campaign was meant to remind people of the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle. "Our ancestors sacrificed their lives for this Tricolour. Let us keep the Tricolour flying high," she said, appealing to people to hoist the national flag at their homes.
Singh urged people to display the Tricolour from August 9 to 15, saying the march was a reminder that freedom had not come easily. "This Yatra reminds us that freedom did not come easily. As BJP workers, it is our duty to ensure that the Tricolour reaches every booth and every street," he said.
Chandolia said the campaign sought to take the message of patriotism to different sections of society, and urged people to hoist the national flag at homes, shops and institutions.
