Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra takes over as CMD of POWERGRID

Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra has assumed the charge as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Power. Prior to his elevation to the top post, he was serving as Director (Projects) within the organisation.
An engineering graduate with a Post Graduate Diploma in Planning & Project Management, Vamsi also holds a PG Diploma in Management from the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurugram. His academic credentials are supplemented by the Harvard Manage Mentor (HMM) programme and advanced management programmes at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad.
His appointment marks a significant milestone for the corporation as he belongs to the first batch of Executive Trainees inducted into POWERGRID in 1993. With an extensive career spanning over 33 years in the power transmission and telecom sectors, Vamsi has held several strategic and policy-making roles at both regional and corporate levels.
His expertise covers a wide spectrum of business domains, including procurement, commercial, regulatory affairs, asset management, and projects. Notably, he was a founding member of POWERGRID’s Regulatory Cell and a key architect in positioning the company within the competitive bidding market for power transmission.
During his tenure as the CEO of POWERGRID Teleservices Limited, he was credited with leading the expansion of the telecom business and initiating the organisation’s maiden Data Centre project. A staunch advocate for mechanisation and digitalisation, Vamsi has been instrumental in introducing reforms in project monitoring, aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency in large-scale infrastructure delivery.
