UP CM lauds Indian medal winners at Asian Games

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday congratulated Indian wrestlers who brought laurels to the country in the ongoing Asian Games.
In the first of a series of posts on X, Adityanath said, “A golden upgrade for Indian wrestling! Congratulations to Aman Sehrawat on winning the gold medal in the men’s freestyle 57-kg event at the Asian Games 2026. After winning bronze at the previous Asian Games, Aman has now raised the bar with a fighting performance to become the Asian Games champion in his category. A proud moment for Indian wrestling and a fine example of determination and fighting spirit. Jai Hind!”
In another post, he lauded Antim Panghal, who won silver. “A commendable silver for India on the wrestling mat! Congratulations to Antim Panghal on winning the silver medal in the women’s 53-kg freestyle wrestling event at the Asian Games 2026. With courage, determination and a strong fighting spirit, Antim has earned another place on the podium for India. A proud achievement for Indian wrestling.”
Congratulating Deepak Punia on winning the bronze medal, Adityanath said, “Another fighting performance on the wrestling mat! Congratulations to Deepak Punia on winning the bronze medal in the men’s freestyle 97-kg event at the Asian Games 2026. Deepak held his ground under pressure to secure his place on the podium and add another medal to India’s wrestling campaign. India’s wrestlers continue to make the nation proud on the Asian stage.
Jai Hind!” Aman Sehrawat upgraded his Asian Games bronze to gold while Antim Panghal’s bid to become the second Indian woman wrestler to win the continental title ended in disappointment after being outclassed by Japan’s Moe Miyooka on Saturday. India signed off with six medals -- two gold, two silver and two bronze -- in one of the best shows of the tournament, especially after missing out on top-of-the-podium place in Hangzhou Games in 2023.
Aman, who had won bronze at the 2023 Hangzhou Games, held his nerve to beat North Korea’s reigning World Champion Chong Song Han 10-7 in the men’s 57-kg final.
This was India’s second wrestling gold after Sujeet Kalkal’s sensational title win on Friday. India has won two golds at the Asian Games after the 2018 Jakarta Games, when Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat had triumphed in their respective men’s and women’s events.
Deepak Punia added a bronze in the men’s 97-kg category, beating Mongolia’s Gankhuyang Ganbataar 2-1.
The 27-year-old, who had won silver at Hangzhou, had earlier reached the semifinals with a 12-2 technical superiority win over China’s Junpeng Zhou and a walkover from Hong Kong’s Vincent Fung Wui Li, before losing 8-9 to Uzbekistan’s Sherzod Poyonov.
