Udhyam Vyapaar powers Delhi ironers to cleaner future with LPG boxes

Udhyam Vyapaar has organised a community discussion and LPG iron box distribution event in Delhi NCR, uniting ironing vendors from Sarojini Nagar, Vallabh Bhai Patel Nagar (Ballabgarh), Model Town, Noida, and Faridabad to mark their shift to safer, more efficient operations. The event served as a platform for iron vendors to share experiences, discuss challenges, and learn about the benefits of shifting from traditional coal-based irons to LPG-powered alternatives, which are safe to use and designed for everyday commercial operations.
The gathering allowed Istri Vyapaaris—traditional ironing vendors—to exchange experiences, address challenges, and explore the advantages of LPG-powered irons over coal-based ones, which cut fuel costs by nearly 50 per cent, save up to two hours daily, and reduce harmful smoke exposure. Eligible vendors received LPG iron boxes as part of the initiative, underscoring peer learning and collective progress in Delhi’s ironing ecosystem.
Udhyam Vyapaar’s Istri Project subsidises the switch to LPG irons, delivering a 25 per cent average income rise, better service quality, and lower carbon emissions for street vendors. In Delhi alone, over 1,300 vendors transitioned in the past year, reporting faster ironing, slashed expenses, and higher customer satisfaction amid cleaner conditions. Many vendors now report faster ironing, reduced fuel expenses, and improved customer satisfaction.
The community discussion event highlighted how these changes are not just improving individual incomes, but also uplifting the collective confidence and aspirations of the ironing vendor community in Delhi. Nationally, the four-year programme across five cities has aided more than 8,000 vendors, generating a `100 crore cumulative income uplift by September 2025 and averting over 6,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
