Tension Mounts as BRS Leaders Rush to KCR's Erravalli Residence Amid Congress Siege Call
Political tensions escalated in Telangana on Tuesday as BRS working president K T Rama Rao, deputy floor leader T Harish Rao and other party leaders headed towards former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s farmhouse at Erravalli in Siddipet district, amid a call by the Congress SC Cell to lay siege to the property.
BRS leaders and workers were also detained near Hakimpet as police moved to prevent party supporters from gathering and heading towards KCR’s Erravalli farmhouse.
As the situation escalated, T Harish Rao was shifted to the Jawahar Nagar police station, while K T Rama Rao was taken to the Bowenpally police station.
The developments came amid a call by the Congress SC Cell to lay siege to KCR’s Erravalli farmhouse, with police imposing prohibitory orders under Section 144 around the property and deploying additional personnel.
The stand-off follows a series of confrontations between the ruling Congress and opposition BRS that began on Monday, when BRS legislators wearing black T-shirts were stopped from entering the Telangana Assembly and later detained by police.
Police have registered five cases in connection with the incidents. BRS MLCs T Madhusudhan and N Naveen Kumar Reddy were booked under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act over alleged remarks against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.
Separate cases were also registered against K T Rama Rao, T Harish Rao, G Jagadish Reddy, Padi Kaushik Reddy, Gangula Kamalakar and others over allegations of assaulting and abusing police personnel.
Meanwhile, BRS workers preparing to hold a rythu deeksha (farmers’ sit-in) in Markook mandal of Gajwel constituency were taken into preventive custody.
BRS leaders condemned the detentions, alleging that the action was taken at the behest of the Congress government.
