Tamil Nadu man attacks ex-fiancée after wedding called off; mother killed protecting daughter

A woman was killed while trying to protect her daughter after a man allegedly attacked his former fiancée in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district. Police said the accused, identified as 32-year-old Yuvaraj, allegedly stormed into the family's home after the woman called off their engagement, reportedly citing the age difference between them.
According to investigators, the accused allegedly targeted the 21-year-old woman with a sharp weapon. Her mother, Vinayaga Jothi, intervened to shield her daughter but sustained fatal injuries during the attack.
The young woman suffered serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Police said the family had cut off communication with the accused after the engagement was cancelled.
Following the incident, police arrested Yuvaraj and launched an investigation into the case. Authorities are examining the sequence of events and gathering evidence as part of the probe. The incident has once again raised concerns over violence against women and the need for timely intervention in cases involving harassment and rejected marriage proposals.
