Tamil Nadu CM Vijay arrives in Delhi, likely to attend NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay arrived in the national capital on Wednesday and is expected to attend the upcoming meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Upon his arrival in Delhi, Vijay was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour and was received at Tamil Nadu Bhavan by Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar and other senior state officials.
The visit marks Vijay’s second trip to Delhi since assuming office. During his previous visit on May 27, he met Prime Minister Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss a range of issues concerning Tamil Nadu.
During those meetings, the Chief Minister reportedly sought the Centre’s intervention on matters including the proposed Mekedatu dam project on the Cauvery River, the release of Tamil fishermen detained by the Sri Lankan Navy, and enhanced support for infrastructure development in the state.
Vijay also urged the Union government to prioritize Tamil Nadu in the allocation of funds for major sectors such as ports, highways, railway projects, and industrial corridors.
Senior minister K.A. Sengottaiyan said the Chief Minister is expected to raise several important developmental issues at the NITI Aayog meeting, including welfare initiatives, infrastructure requirements, and greater financial support from the Centre for Tamil Nadu.
Sources indicated that Vijay may also hold meetings with senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi during his stay in Delhi.
The Chief Minister is expected to return to Tamil Nadu on June 12 after concluding his official engagements in the capital.
