Suvendu Adhikari takes oath as first BJP CM of West Bengal

Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the first Bharatiya Janata Party Chief Minister of West Bengal on Saturday at a grand oath-taking ceremony held at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata.
The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Governor RN Ravi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers, Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states, and senior BJP leaders.
Several newly elected BJP legislators, including Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Nisith Pramanik, and Kshudiram Tudu, were also sworn in as ministers in the new state cabinet.
The BJP secured a decisive mandate with 207 seats in the 294-member West Bengal Assembly, bringing an end to the 15-year rule of the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee.
The ceremony marked a major political shift in the state’s governance, with the BJP forming its first government in West Bengal after a historic electoral victory.
Following the oath ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Suvendu Adhikari and extended best wishes to the new state government for its tenure.
The event at Brigade Parade Ground witnessed large public participation and heavy security arrangements, reflecting its significance as a landmark political transition in the state.
