Supreme Court seeks Delhi Police report on assault of lawyer

The Supreme Court has directed the Delhi Police to submit a status report on the investigation into the recent assault on an advocate in the national capital. The court asked that the report be filed by an officer not below the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), signalling the seriousness with which it is viewing the incident.
During the hearing, the Bench also instructed the police to ensure the advocate's safety and provide adequate protection. The petition before the court sought police protection, a transfer of the investigation, and stricter legal action against those accused of carrying out the assault. The lawyer alleged that he was attacked at his residence and expressed concerns over his personal safety.
The Supreme Court observed that attacks on members of the legal profession cannot be taken lightly and stressed the need for a fair and prompt investigation. The matter has been listed for further hearing after the Delhi Police files its status report.
The case has once again raised concerns about the safety of advocates and the importance of ensuring security for legal professionals while carrying out their duties.
