SSC GD exam cancelled in Kanpur due to overbooking, Muzaffarpur shift called off over technical glitch

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) GD Constable examination faced disruption at multiple centres on Monday, with exam shifts being cancelled in Kanpur due to overcrowding and in Muzaffarpur because of technical issues.
In Kanpur, both SSC GD examination shifts scheduled at Shrimati Ramkali Iqbal Bahadur Online Centre in Maharajpur were cancelled after authorities discovered that the number of candidates allotted to the centre far exceeded its seating capacity.
According to reports, the centre could accommodate only 399 candidates per shift, but nearly 819 admit cards were issued for each session. The exam was scheduled in two shifts between 2 pm to 3 pm and 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
Officials said confusion erupted after hundreds of candidates arrived at the venue. Nearly 350 students had already entered the examination hall before authorities realised the centre could not handle the assigned number of candidates.
The situation led to protests from candidates, many of whom had travelled from different districts to appear for the recruitment examination. Some students reportedly attempted to block the Kanpur-Prayagraj National Highway before police intervened and restored order.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Satyajeet Gupta said the situation was brought under control peacefully and denied reports of violence or vandalism at the venue.
Authorities later informed candidates that fresh examination dates would be communicated through email and the official SSC website.
In a separate incident, an SSC GD examination shift in Muzaffarpur was also cancelled due to technical problems at the examination centre. Officials cited system-related issues that prevented the smooth conduct of the computer-based examination.
The twin disruptions have once again raised concerns over planning, infrastructure and management during large-scale government recruitment examinations conducted across the country.
Officials said affected candidates in both Kanpur and Muzaffarpur would be informed about rescheduled examination dates soon.
