Speeding Mercedes kills scooty rider in Delhi hit-and-run; Driver arrested

A 29-year-old scooty rider was killed in a hit-and-run accident after a speeding Mercedes allegedly rammed into his two-wheeler near the Jahangirpuri Bus Stand on Delhi's Outer Ring Road. Police have arrested the driver of the luxury car.
The accident took place on the night of July 5 near the foot overbridge at the Jahangirpuri Bus Stand. Police rushed to the spot after receiving information and found the rider critically injured. He was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The deceased was identified as Deepak, a resident of Mangolpuri.
During the investigation, police received a crucial lead from a PCR caller who reported that a Mercedes with a Haryana registration number had hit the scooty and fled the scene. Based on the vehicle details, investigators traced the registered owner and served a notice under Section 133 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The owner identified Ansh Pratap Singh as the person driving the car at the time of the accident.
Police subsequently arrested Singh and seized the Mercedes involved in the incident. A case has been registered at Jahangirpuri Police Station under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.
The incident has once again raised concerns over reckless driving and hit-and-run cases involving high-speed vehicles in the national capital.
