Pal's remarks expunged for second time in Monsoon Session

Remarks made by BJP MP Jagdambika Pal while presiding over Lok Sabha proceedings were expunged by Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday, marking the second such instance in the ongoing Monsoon Session.

The expunged remarks referred to Samajwadi Party MP Chotelal, who represents Robertsganj.

According to the sequence of events, the House re-assembled at 2 pm on Wednesday after an adjournment, when Pal, trying to restore order, asked opposition MPs to return to their seats and made a comment referring to Chotelal.

This is the second time in the current session that Birla has expunged remarks made by Pal. In what was described as a rare decision on August 5, Birla had expunged comments made by Pal while presiding over proceedings ahead of the passage of the Bankers' Books Evidence Bill, 2026.

On that occasion, Pal had made observations about Samajwadi Party MP Ruchi Vira and Congress MP KC Venugopal, both of whom were protesting police action against students during a march to Parliament on July 20.

The BJP leader's remarks against the SP's Moradabad MP were made in the course of admonishing her for disrupting proceedings, and the expunged remarks against Venugopal came in the same context.
