Myanmar assures India its territory will not be used against Indian security interests

Myanmar has assured India that it will not allow its territory to be used for activities detrimental to India's security interests, reaffirming its commitment during the 23rd National-Level Meeting between the two countries held in New Delhi.
The two-day meeting, held on July 7 and 8, focused on reviewing the prevailing security situation along the India-Myanmar border. Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining peace, stability and security in the border areas while strengthening cooperation to address cross-border challenges.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, both countries agreed to prevent the misuse of their sovereign territories for activities that could threaten each other's security. During the discussions, the Myanmar delegation reiterated that its territory would not be permitted to be used against India's security interests.
The two sides also agreed to enhance intelligence sharing, improve operational coordination and expand capacity-building initiatives to tackle insurgency, transnational crime, illegal trafficking and other security concerns along the 1,643-km shared border.
The meeting reflects the continuing security cooperation between India and Myanmar amid ongoing challenges in Myanmar and concerns over insurgent groups operating near the international border. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to sustained dialogue and coordinated efforts to ensure stability in the region.
