Ben Stokes’ ‘Sack Him’ post sparks fresh row as ICC probes ECB over retirement video

Former England Test captain Ben Stokes has reignited debate with a cryptic two-word social media post — “Sack him” — as the International Cricket Council investigates the England and Wales Cricket Board over the release of footage from his retirement announcement.
The controversy centres on a video recorded inside England's dressing room before play on the fourth day of the Trent Bridge Test, in which Stokes informed teammates of his decision to retire from international cricket. The ECB later shared the footage on social media and with broadcasters while the match was still in progress.
According to reports, the ICC has contacted the ECB to determine whether the release of the dressing-room footage during live play breached its media and anti-corruption regulations, which restrict the publication of audio and video from team dressing rooms while a match is underway.
Stokes' brief "Sack him" post has fuelled speculation over who he was referring to, though he did not provide any explanation. The message has sparked widespread discussion among fans and cricket experts amid scrutiny of the ECB's handling of the retirement announcement.
While no disciplinary action has been announced, reports suggest the matter could result in a warning or fine if the ICC concludes that the ECB violated its regulations. The governing body is yet to make an official decision.
