India condemns attack on Indian-Flagged Ship off Oman Coast, calls it "Unacceptable"

India strongly condemned the attack on an Indian-flagged commercial vessel off the coast of Oman, calling the incident “unacceptable” and expressing concern over continued threats to civilian shipping in the region.

Reacting to the incident, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India deplores attacks targeting commercial ships and civilian mariners, stressing that freedom of navigation and global commerce must not be disrupted.

“The attack on an Indian-flagged ship off the coast of Oman yesterday is unacceptable and we deplore the fact that commercial shipping and civilian mariners continue to be targeted,” Jaiswal said.

He confirmed that all Indian crew members onboard the vessel are safe and thanked the Omani authorities for carrying out rescue operations promptly after the incident.

“We thank the Omani authorities for rescuing them,” the MEA spokesperson added.

India also reiterated its position that commercial shipping routes and innocent civilian crew members should never be endangered amid regional tensions.

“India reiterates that targeting commercial shipping and endangering innocent civilian crew members, or otherwise impeding freedom of navigation and commerce, should be avoided,” Jaiswal said.

The incident comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East and increasing concerns over the safety of international shipping routes in the region.
