Election Commission launches SIR Phase-3 Electoral Roll Revision in 16 States, 3 UTs

The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced the rollout of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 16 states and three Union Territories in a phased manner starting May 30.

According to the Commission, the exercise will cover Delhi, Odisha, Mizoram, Sikkim, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Telangana, Punjab, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Tripura, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

The EC said the schedule for Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh will be announced later due to weather conditions in snow-bound regions.

During the SIR Phase-3 exercise, more than 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers will conduct door-to-door verification covering approximately 36.73 crore electors.

The Election Commission has already completed similar revisions in several states, including Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Goa, as well as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.

A special revision exercise was also conducted earlier in Assam.

The Commission said the large-scale revision is aimed at ensuring accuracy and inclusiveness in the electoral rolls ahead of future elections.
