The visiting delegation included foreign ministers from Russia, Iran, South Africa, Brazil and other member and partner countries participating in the high-level multilateral discussions.
The meetings were held in the national capital during the ongoing BRICS Foreign Ministers’ conclave hosted by India as part of its 2026 chairmanship of the grouping.
Prime Minister Modi also joined the visiting leaders for the official BRICS “family photo”, symbolising collective engagement among member nations and partners.
Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar welcomed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at Bharat Mandapam, where the summit discussions were held.
Jaishankar also received diplomats and foreign ministers from several countries, including China, Indonesia, South Africa, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE, highlighting India’s wide-ranging diplomatic outreach during the event.
The BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting focuses on strengthening cooperation among emerging economies, with discussions centred on global governance reforms, economic resilience, trade, energy security, and development challenges.
India, which assumed the BRICS chairmanship on January 1, is hosting the event as part of its fourth presidency of the influential grouping, having previously chaired it in 2012, 2016, and 2021.
