Cockroach Janta Party Crosses 13 Million Instagram Followers, Surpasses BJP

A satirical online movement called the “Cockroach Janta Party” (CJP) has rapidly become one of India’s biggest social media trends, crossing more than 10 million Instagram followers within just a few days and overtaking the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) official Instagram follower count.
Reports indicate that BJP currently has around 8.7 million followers on the platform, while CJP crossed the 13 million mark, making it a major talking point online.
The movement began as a satirical response to remarks attributed to Chief Justice Surya Kant regarding sections of unemployed youth.
Social media users, particularly Gen Z audiences, turned the controversy into an internet-led campaign using memes, humor, and political satire.
The campaign quickly gained traction among young users who connected with its messaging around unemployment, social pressure, and frustration with institutions.
The movement was founded by Abhijeet Dipke, who reportedly has prior experience in political social media campaigns.
CJP describes itself as the “Voice of the Lazy & Unemployed” and has released a satirical manifesto focused on youth-related issues and political accountability.
While the viral growth reflects the influence of digital culture and online engagement, analysts note that social media popularity does not necessarily translate into real-world political support or organizational strength.
