Madras HC seeks ECI response on Vijay’s alleged appeal to children during poll campaign

The Madras High Court has sought a response from the Election Commission of India (ECI) on a petition alleging that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), used children during election campaigning to influence voters.

The plea requested an inquiry into whether election guidelines were violated during the campaign period.

According to the petition, references were made to a campaign event where children were allegedly encouraged to influence or persuade their parents regarding voting choices.

The petitioner argued that involving children in political campaigns could be contrary to Election Commission guidelines and existing rules relating to the use of minors in election activities.

During the hearing, the court reportedly raised questions regarding the legal scope of action against a political party in such situations, including whether allegations of electoral misconduct could lead to action against an entire party or only against individual candidates.

The court has issued notice and sought responses from the concerned authorities.

The matter remains under judicial consideration, and no findings on the allegations have been made so far. Further proceedings are expected after responses are submitted before the court.
