India, African Union Postpone New Delhi Summit Amid Ebola Outbreak

India and the African Union (AU) have jointly decided to postpone the Fourth India–Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-IV), which was scheduled to take place in New Delhi next week. The decision was taken due to the evolving Ebola situation in parts of Africa and concerns surrounding public health and international travel.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the postponement followed consultations between Indian authorities, the African Union leadership, and the African Union Commission. Officials described the move as a precautionary step while emphasising that India remains committed to its partnership with African nations and ongoing cooperation in health preparedness efforts.

The India–Africa Forum Summit is considered a key platform for strengthening cooperation between India and African countries in areas including trade, development, technology, healthcare, infrastructure, and diplomatic relations. New dates for the summit and associated meetings are expected to be announced after mutual consultations.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the Ebola outbreak in parts of Africa. The World Health Organization recently declared the situation a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), prompting India to increase surveillance and preparedness measures, including health advisories and airport screening protocols.
