2 Dead, 15 injured in explosion at firecracker factory in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas

At least 2 people were killed and 15 others injured after a massive explosion triggered by a fire at a firecracker factory in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district, officials said.
The incident took place in Tonkkala village under Tonk Khurd tehsil, where an under-construction firecracker unit caught fire before a powerful blast occurred, leading to panic in the area.
Dewas Collector Rituraj Singh said that rescue and relief operations were launched immediately after the administration received information about the incident.
“A fire broke out at an under-construction firecracker factory located in Tonk Khurd Tehsil in Dewas district in which 15 people were injured and 2 persons died. All the injured have been referred to Indore for treatment,” he said.
Officials confirmed that fire tenders were deployed and the blaze was eventually brought under control. Teams were also engaged in safely removing remaining gunpowder from the site to prevent further explosions.
Authorities said the situation is now under control, while a detailed investigation has been ordered to determine the cause of the blast.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed grief over the incident and announced financial assistance of ₹4 lakh each for the families of the deceased, along with free medical treatment for the injured.
“The news of multiple casualties in the explosion at a firecracker factory in Tonkkala area of Dewas district is heart-rending,” the Chief Minister said, adding that senior officials have been directed to reach the site and an inquiry has been ordered.
He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and strength for the bereaved families.
