Shehbaz Sharif thanks Donald Trump for pausing Strait of Hormuz operation amid Iran talks

Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for announcing a pause in “Project Freedom,” an operation aimed at escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
The move comes as Washington and Tehran are reportedly making progress toward a potential agreement to ease tensions and end ongoing hostilities.
In a statement, Sharif praised Trump’s “courageous leadership” and termed the decision timely, adding that it would contribute to regional peace and stability. He noted that the pause followed requests from Pakistan and other countries, including Saudi Arabia.
The Pakistani Prime Minister reiterated his country’s commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving conflicts through dialogue. He expressed hope that ongoing discussions between the United States and Iran would result in a lasting peace agreement.
Speaking at an international conference in Islamabad, Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue between the two sides, saying such efforts helped open channels for negotiations.
He also acknowledged the role of countries like China and Turkey in supporting peace initiatives.
The development signals a possible de-escalation in tensions in the region, with hopes rising for a diplomatic resolution that could stabilise the broader Middle East.
