Security forces foil terror plot in Ganderbal; IED defused

The terrorist handlers sitting across the border in Pakistan are growing restless with every failed attempt to trigger unrest in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the peak tourist season.
In the recent week, the region witnessed a failed infiltration bid in the Sunderbani area of Rajouri, unprovoked firing on the forward Indian posts in Kupwara, a drone dropping of a drug cache across the Jammu frontier and recovery of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) planted to trigger a blast in the valley.
The latest recovery was made on Saturday in the central Kashmir district of Ganderbal. The IED was kept inside a bag and placed on the roadside at Gulab Sheikh Mohalla near Kohestan Colony in the district’s Safapora area.
The officials said security forces cordoned off the area, and traffic was halted. A bomb disposal squad was called to the spot, and the IED was destroyed without causing any harm, they added. It is the third IED detected during the last week in North Kashmir. On Thursday, an IED was found on Tangmarg Road and one in Baramulla.
At the same time, multiple anti-terrorist operations are underway across the region to flush out Pakistani terrorists hiding inside the thickly forested areas. These operations are currently underway in Kishtwar, Udhampur, and Kathua, as well as in Rajouri and Poonch districts, across the Jammu region.
In the Kashmir Valley, security has been beefed up across all hotspots frequented by tourists from across the country and various international destinations. The security forces have worked out a deployment plan to map all the tourist places, and deployment has been made to instil a sense of security among the visitors. With the launch of the Vande Bharat Express between Delhi, Jammu, and Srinagar in the coming weeks, the security forces will be beefing up their defences along the railway stations and nearby roads linking these stations during the peak season ahead to ensure incident-free travel along the route.
Meanwhile, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, Army Commander Northern Command, visited the Sunderbani Sector on Saturday following the successful culmination of OpJwala, which foiled an infiltration bid and resulted in the recovery of war-like stores. The Army Commander commended the troops for their swift and precise action. He also lauded their professionalism, commitment and steadfast resolve towards ensuring a terror-free Jammu Kashmir.
