Sabarimala Gold Case: Kerala Minister seeks withdrawal of TDB circular appointing officials under probe

The Kerala Devaswom Minister has sought the withdrawal of a Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) circular that appointed officials who are currently facing investigation in the ongoing Sabarimala gold-related controversy, intensifying the political and administrative row surrounding the temple management.
The directive comes amid continuing scrutiny of alleged irregularities in the handling of gold-plated artefacts at the Sabarimala temple, which is already under investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and other agencies. The case involves allegations of misappropriation, record discrepancies, and procedural lapses in the custody and renovation of temple valuables.
According to officials, the minister raised objections over the inclusion or continuation of officers under probe in key administrative roles, arguing that such appointments could undermine the credibility and integrity of the ongoing investigation.
The Sabarimala gold case has been under judicial monitoring following allegations that gold-clad temple structures, including Dwarapalaka idols and door frames, were improperly removed and sent for repair without adequate documentation or oversight.
Investigations have previously pointed to discrepancies in records maintained by the TDB, with the Kerala High Court directing a detailed probe into possible lapses, mismanagement, and potential criminal conspiracy involving multiple officials and intermediaries.
The controversy has triggered widespread political debate in Kerala, with opposition parties demanding stronger accountability measures and a central agency probe, while the state government maintains that the investigation is being conducted under court supervision and will bring out the truth.
Further action on the minister’s request regarding the circular is expected as the administrative and legal proceedings in the case continue.
