Russia launches massive missile assault on Ukraine using hypersonic weapons

Russia carried out one of its largest missile attacks on Ukraine, using several advanced weapons systems including Oreshnik, Iskander, Kinzhal, and Zircon missiles in a major overnight operation. Russian authorities described the strikes as a response to alleged Ukrainian attacks on civilian targets inside Russian territory.
Reports indicate that the attack also involved a large wave of drones, making it one of the biggest combined aerial assaults seen during the conflict. Ukraine stated that approximately 90 missiles and around 600 drones were launched during the operation, with Kyiv and nearby regions among the major targets.
Ukrainian authorities reported damage to residential areas, infrastructure, schools, and public facilities following the strikes.
The use of hypersonic missiles has drawn attention because these weapons travel at extremely high speeds and are designed to be more difficult for defense systems to intercept.
Russia claimed the strikes targeted military infrastructure, command centers, and defense-related facilities, though battlefield claims from both sides remain difficult to independently verify
