Rudra Gaurav Shresth appointed India’s next Ambassador to Türkiye

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has appointed senior Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Rudra Gaurav Shresth as India’s next Ambassador to the Republic of Türkiye. Shresth, a 1999-batch IFS officer, is currently serving as India’s Ambassador to Iran and is expected to assume his new assignment shortly.
A seasoned diplomat, Shresth took charge as India’s Ambassador to Iran in May 2023 and has held several key diplomatic assignments during his career. Prior to his posting in Tehran, he served on deputation in the Prime Minister’s Office and earlier held the position of India’s High Commissioner to Mozambique from 2016 to 2019.
Over the years, Shresth has served in Indian diplomatic missions across France, Mauritius, Afghanistan, Singapore, and Bhutan, gaining extensive experience in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy.
His appointment comes at a significant time in India-Türkiye relations, following recent diplomatic engagements between the two countries, including the latest round of Foreign Office Consultations. Türkiye remains an important regional player connecting Europe and Asia, making the posting strategically significant for India’s foreign policy interests.
The MEA announced the appointment on June 11, underscoring India's continued focus on strengthening diplomatic engagement with key international partners.
