Rubio-Jaishankar talks highlight visa concerns, anti-India racism and strategic partnership

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed several important issues during a joint press conference in New Delhi, reflecting the growing strategic partnership between the two countries.
Discussions covered visa concerns, anti-India racism, trade, defense cooperation, and regional security matters.
One of the key topics was immigration and visa-related concerns affecting Indian citizens and professionals.
Rubio said that changes in US immigration policies are part of a broader system review and are not specifically targeted at India.
He also acknowledged concerns raised by Indian communities regarding visa-related issues and assured continued dialogue on the matter.
Rubio also responded to questions regarding racist comments and attacks against Indians in the US.
He stressed that isolated incidents should not define American society and emphasized that Indian-origin communities have made important contributions across various sectors in the United States.
Apart from social concerns, both leaders discussed strengthening cooperation in defense, trade, energy security, and the Quad alliance.
Jaishankar highlighted India’s balanced foreign policy approach and stressed the importance of maintaining peace, secure maritime trade routes, and stable global energy markets.
