Rein in drones, India warns Pakistan

Taking strong exception to drone intrusions into India, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Tuesday here cautioned Pakistan to rein in such unacceptable actions. This message was conveyed during the talks between the Director General Military Operations (DGMO)of the two countries on Tuesday, the Army chief said. Lagaam Lagaiye (rein in), he asserted.
The warning came after drones were spotted along India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district and Jammu and Kashmir over Sunday and Monday.Making India’s position clear, the Army Chief said Pakistan was asked to “control” what he described were drone intrusions from the neighbouring country into India.
Giving details on the sightings, General Dwivedi said the drones seen were very small and “come with their lights on”, not flying at very high altitudes. Around six drones were seen on January 10, and two to three were seen on the January 11 and 12, he said.
“These, I believe, were defensive drones, which were trying to see if any action was being taken against us. It’s possible they also wanted to see if there were any gaps, any laxity in the Indian Army, any gaps through which they could send terrorists,” General Dwivedi said, adding that he believes “they must have received a negative response”.“They must have seen that as of today, there is no such place, no such gap from where they can send them [terrorist],” General Dwivedi added.
“But this is certain: we had a DGMO (Director General of Military Operations) talk today. This matter was discussed in that talk, and they were told that this is unacceptable to us, and please control. This has been conveyed to them...,” he said.On Sunday, alert troops of the Indian Army guarding the Nowshera sector in Rajouri successfully tackled multiple drone intrusions by opening fire from medium and light machine guns.
A total of five drone sightings were reported along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch, and the International border in Samba late Sunday evening. After Operation Sindoor in May 2025, this is the first time multiple drones attempted to violate the Indian airspace and retreated inside the Pakistani territory after hovering over the sensitive locations for some time.
Senior Army officers have reportedly reviewed the prevailing security situation in the region and alerted all local formations on the ground to activate the necessary security measures to deal with any threat in real time. On Monday, separate teams carried out searches in the general area of Rajouri and Poonch to look out for any consignment with the help of drones.Pakistan uses drones to drop weapons and drugs on Indian territory and to support state-sponsored terror groups. In the last week, the security forces have already reported several incidents of drone droppings in the Jammu region.
