Red Fort blast accused’s device held jihadist texts, alleges NIA
Social media and the internet played a key role in indoctrinating the alleged perpetrators of the Red Fort blast last year, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has said in its chargesheet, quoting documents such as Lone Mujahid Pocket Book, How to Become an Assassin to Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), use of explosives, weapons and faking identity. The chargesheet refers to a number of documents and publications allegedly recovered during the investigation. They allegedly promoted extremist ideology and contained material relating to terrorist operations.
Referring to Lone Mujahid Pocket Book, chargesheet claims, “This document is a very high-risk extremist operational manual, designed to enable and inspire lone-wolf terrorist attacks and suicidal attacks through simplified, low-cost, and easily executable methods targeting innocent civilians and infrastructure.”
Referring to another PDF file titled Barood_Book_Fidai_Force, the chargesheet claims, “The document is an extremist-linked instructional manual that presents a structured overview of explosives, including classifications, properties, components, operational and general usage concepts, indicative of material intended for training and indoctrination purposes.”
Referring to yet another document titled 44 Ways Of Supporting Jihad by Anwar Al-Awlaki, who was a proscribed terrorist, al-Qaida propagandist and recruiter, the chargesheet claims, “This document is a guide that pushes people toward extreme and violent ideas. It encourages people to join in fighting and promotes the idea of becoming a martyr, even encouraging people to seek death”. Another document titled “Anwar Al-Awlaki - Constants on The Path of Jihad” shows supports violence without responsibility or accountability and encourages people to travel, get training, and join fights”.
The charge sheet said that there is a document which is practical instructional manual detailing the preparation, processing, and enhancement of urea nitrate explosive material. It is instructional and operational manual enabling manufacture of explosive material using accessible resources such as nitric acid, aluminium powder, ammonium nitrate and urine as source of urea. The expert clearly mentioned that this document gives easy instructions on how to make and produce explosives. It acts as a practical step-by-step manual that teaches exactly how to manufacture explosives. It specifically provides clear, actionable guidance on preparing and improving urea nitrate explosives, and explains how to use them to build improvised explosive devices (IEDs). This document suggests that the reader is prepared to carry out an attack and nurtures intent to make explosive substances.
“Another document advocates armed Jihad and rule of caliphate and discusses at length about Al-Qaida, Taliban, ISIS and further speaks against existing political systems i.e. democracy, which mentions that ‘Muslims cannot attain honour without jihad’, ‘perpetual armed struggle as religious duty’, ‘Satanic and tyrannical systems collapse through the blessed act of jihad’ etc. In brief, the document justifies violence in the name of Islam for Gazwa-e-Hind and praises global Armed Jihad in the countries viz. Iraq, Afghanistan, America,” the charge sheet said.
According to the charge sheet, there is one document in the digital device seized in the case which is titled ‘Message to the Muslims of Kashmir’ which contains the topics viz. offering heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives in armed Jihad in Kashmir, honours the courage and sacrifice of the Mujahideen, comforts and congratulates the families and parents of those killed in armed jihad and the expert is of the view that in this document the man shamelessly congratulates the families and parents of those misguided youth who lost their lives in waging war against India in Kashmir with de-contextualisation of Quranic verses.
