PV Sindhu storms into Maiden Japan Open Super 750 Final, ends Chen Yufei Jinx

PV Sindhu reached the final of the Japan Open Super 750 for the first time in her career after defeating China's Olympic champion Chen Yufei in the women's singles semi-final in Tokyo. The Indian shuttler won the opening game 21-19 and was leading 15-10 in the second when Chen was forced to retire due to a hamstring injury, handing Sindhu a place in the title clash.
The victory marked a significant milestone for the two-time Olympic medallist, who ended a five-match losing streak against Chen and advanced to her first BWF World Tour final since 2024. Sindhu displayed confidence and composure throughout the contest, taking control of crucial rallies before her opponent's injury brought the match to an early end.
She later said winning the first game gave her the momentum needed against a world-class opponent. Sindhu's impressive run in Tokyo signals a strong return to form and makes her the first Indian woman to reach the Japan Open final.
She will now face the winner of the second semi-final between Japan's Akane Yamaguchi and Indonesia's Putri Kusuma Wardani as she aims to lift her maiden Japan Open title.
