Prasoon Joshi Appointed As Prasar Bharati Chairman by Centre

The Centre has appointed noted lyricist and communications expert Prasoon Joshi as the new Chairman of Prasar Bharati, the country’s public service broadcaster.
Joshi succeeds Navneet Kumar Sehgal, who resigned from the post earlier. The appointment was announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Saturday.
A prominent figure in literature, advertising, and cinema, Joshi has been serving as the Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) since 2017. He is widely regarded for his creative contributions across multiple domains, including film lyrics, storytelling, and public communication.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw congratulated Joshi on his appointment, describing him as a “rare creative spirit” whose work reflects India’s cultural essence. He expressed confidence that Joshi’s leadership would bring renewed energy and direction to the organisation.
Before his tenure at the CBFC, Joshi held leadership roles in the advertising industry, including as CEO of McCann World Group India and Chairman of McCann World Group Asia Pacific. He is also a trustee of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts.
Prasar Bharati oversees national broadcasters Doordarshan and All India Radio and has been expanding its digital footprint, including the launch of OTT initiatives aimed at strengthening public service broadcasting.
Joshi’s appointment is expected to shape the future direction of India’s public broadcasting ecosystem with a stronger creative and cultural focus.
