Indian men advance to squash junior semis, women eliminated
The Indian men’s team secured a semifinal spot in the World Squash Junior Team Championships by defeating England, while the women’s team unfortunately crashed out after losing to the USA. The Indian men’s team triumphed over the third seed England, setting up a semifinal clash against the USA. This victory aims to improve upon their bronze medal finish from last year.
Aryaveer Dewan put India ahead with a commanding 3-0 win over Ronnie Hickling. However, England equalised the scores when Ismail Khalil defeated Yusha Nafees in a closely contested 3-0 match.
India’s Gurveer Singh clinched the decider with a decisive straight-game victory over George Griffiths.
The recently-crowned world junior women’s champion Anahat Singh gave India a strong start in the women’s quarterfinal, defeating Diya Yadav 3-0.
However, USA staged a remarkable comeback. Rudra Singh lost to Charlotte Sze 1-2 and Anika Dubey lost to Lily Bourell 1-2 in the subsequent matches, securing their place in the semifinals.
Quarterfinal Results:
Men: India defeated England 2-1. Aryaveer Dewan won against Ronnie Hickling 11-9 12-10 11-5. Yusha Nafees lost to Ismail Khalil 11-7 8-11 11-4 11-13 7-11. Gurveer Singh won against George Griffiths 11-3 11-8 11-6.
Women: India lost to USA 1-2. Anahat Singh defeated Diya Yadav 11-7 11-5 11-4. Rudra Singh lost to Charlotte Sze 6-11 4-11 8-11. Anika Dubey lost to Lily Bourell 11-13 8-11 6-11.
