Police conduct awareness session on cybercrime for students, teachers
Delhi Police on Friday conducted a large virtual awareness session on cybercrime for school children and teachers, connecting lakhs of students from more than 1,000 Government and private schools across the city.
The programme, held in partnership with the Directorate of Education and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), ran from 11:30 am to 1 pm at the Adarsh Auditorium in Police Headquarters.
The event is part of a series aimed at protecting vulnerable groups, especially school children, from fast-growing online threats. PRO Sanjay Tyagi opened the session and urged students to be careful on social media. He asked parents and teachers to report cyberbullying or harassment without delay. Apart from that, a short street play by the Deep Group drew attention to the risks children face online. Police officials said the performance helped simplify complex cybercrime patterns for young viewers.
The main training session was led by ACP Manoj Kumar from the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations unit. He explained how children are often targeted through cyberbullying, cyberstalking, grooming and fake job offers.
He warned students about digital arrest scams and the growing trend of cyber slavery, where victims are tricked into forced online work. He asked them to secure their devices, turn on two-factor authentication and stay alert to unusual online behaviour. He reminded schools about the “1930” national cyber helpline and stressed the need to report incidents in the “golden hour” for better recovery of lost money or data.
Around 250 students and teachers from NDMC schools attended the event in person. Others joined through hybrid links from their school campuses. Police officials said Cyber Samvaad 2.0 builds on earlier sessions, including a recent workshop for senior citizens and a training programme where 350 teachers learnt about cybercrime techniques and prevention.
