PM Modi condoles passing of Qatar's Former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep condolences over the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Emir of Qatar, remembering him as a "visionary leader" and a "true friend" of India.
In a message shared on social media, PM Modi said Sheikh Hamad played a pivotal role in transforming Qatar into a prosperous and globally respected nation. He also recalled meeting the late leader during his visit to Qatar in February 2024.
Extending his sympathies to the current Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the royal family and the people of Qatar, the Prime Minister said the former Emir's contributions to the country's development and international standing would be remembered for years to come. Leaders from several countries have also paid tribute to Sheikh Hamad following news of his passing.
Sheikh Hamad served as Qatar's Emir from 1995 to 2013, overseeing major economic growth, infrastructure development and an expanded global diplomatic role for the Gulf nation. He stepped down voluntarily in 2013, handing over leadership to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
