PM Modi Begins Netherlands Visit
PM Narendra Modi arrived in the Netherlands on Friday on the second leg of his five-nation tour, aiming to deepen India's strategic partnership with the European nation across trade, technology, defence and renewable energy sectors. During his May 15-17 visit, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and meet King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima. He is also expected to interact with the Indian diaspora and leading Dutch business leaders. The Netherlands is among India's largest European trade partners, with bilateral trade reaching $27.8 billion in 2024-25. Officials described the visit as taking place at an "important juncture," with cooperation expanding beyond traditional sectors such as agriculture, water and health into semiconductors, innovation, maritime security and renewable energy.
The Netherlands is among India's largest European trade partners, with bilateral trade reaching USD 27.8 billion in 2024-25. It is also India's fourth-largest investor, with cumulative FDI of USD 55.6 billion. The visit comes amid growing India-Europe economic engagement following the India-EU Free Trade Agreement and the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement finalised earlier this year.
