Manipur Violence: SC Orders Probe
The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered a forensic examination of the complete 48-minute leaked audio recording that allegedly implicates former Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh in the 2023 ethnic violence. A bench of Justices Sanjay Kumar and K Vinod Chandran directed that the entire conversation, along with admitted voice samples of Singh and other recordings submitted by the petitioner, be sent to the National Forensic Science University (NFSU), Gandhinagar. The court asked the NFSU to expedite the analysis and submit its final report in a sealed cover. The order came amid concerns that only selective audio clips had earlier been examined. The court had previously expressed unease after being informed that partial recordings were sent for forensic scrutiny, following which the NFSU had concluded that the clips showed signs of editing and tampering. The Manipur Government said it received the full recording only after the last hearing. The case arises from a petition filed by the Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust, seeking an independent SIT probe. The plea alleges that the leaked conversation indicates complicity of the State machinery in the violence that erupted in May 2023.
Reply on AI misuse Inadequate: GOVT to X
The Centre has sought additional details from social media platform X over obscene and sexually explicit content allegedly generated through misuse of its AI tool, Grok, saying the company’s response so far is not adequate, sources said on Wednesday. While X submitted a detailed reply asserting compliance with Indian laws and content takedown policies, officials said it failed to provide crucial information, including specific takedown actions taken and concrete measures to prevent recurrence. The IT Ministry has now asked X to immediately furnish details on content removals, enforcement steps and safeguards to curb future misuse. X had been given extended time till Wednesday evening to submit an Action Taken Report after the ministry warned of legal action under the IT Act.
