Parvesh Singh reviews flood-prone spots in Delhi

Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh on Friday said all necessary arrangements have been put in place ahead of the monsoon, with officials on high alert. The minister was on an inspection visit to the Zakhira underpass, one of the biggest waterlogging hotspots identified by Public Works Department (PWD).
“After the last spell of rains, PWD and the Delhi Jal Board officials have been continuously visiting identified waterlogging locations and assessing the situation on the ground,” he told reporters after the visit. Singh said all necessary arrangements have already been completed ahead of the monsoon season.
“With about a month and a half still left for the rains, all pump stations and officials are on high alert and monitoring each point closely. Our effort is to ensure that Delhi residents do not face inconvenience,” the minister said.
During the inspection, the minister reviewed the construction of a drainage system being developed from Rama Road to Zakhira flyover on the Rohtak Road to reduce waterlogging in the area. “Every department must work in coordination to deliver a ‘waterlogging-free’ Delhi this monsoon,” he added.
Singh said the Delhi government has undertaken a city-wide drive to identify, monitor and rectify vulnerable locations. Meanwhile, the PWD has issued an order directing officials to complete the desilting work of its drainage network by June 15 — before the arrival of monsoon in the city.
“Cleaning of drains should start immediately now onward and it shall be ensured that all drains are properly cleaned by by June 15. Proper evidences in the form of photographs/ videos in support of drains having been cleaned, should be maintained,” the order said.
The minister also directed the officials to ensure strict supervision of all ongoing works and their timely completion.
