Tata group to build 1GW AI data centre campus in Hyderabad with Rs 70,000 crore investment

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) subsidiary HyperVault will develop an artificial intelligence (AI) data centre campus with a capacity of up to 1 gigawatt (GW) across more than 250 acres in Hyderabad, with the company and its partners expected to invest up to Rs 70,000 crore in the project.

The project, billed as one of India's largest AI data centre campuses, is expected to create around 7,000 direct and indirect jobs, according to the Telangana government and TCS.

The purpose-built campus will provide high-density, liquid-cooled computing infrastructure for frontier AI companies, hyperscalers and global enterprises. At full capacity, it is expected to rank among the largest and most advanced AI infrastructure campuses in the country.

The campus will also incorporate green energy and water-neutral design principles, while the project is expected to support the wider AI infrastructure ecosystem across power, cooling, networking, construction, engineering and operations.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy described the project as a “historic” development for both the state and India.

“This establishes that Hyderabad is now at the forefront of the global AI revolution with a strong focus on infrastructure,” Reddy said.

“This decade is one of Artificial Intelligence. Access to AI models and compute is fast-becoming public infrastructure and having this compute reside in Telangana gives us an advantage,” he added.

The project was conceptualised following a meeting between Reddy and Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran in Davos in January 2026. According to the Telangana government, officials and HyperVault and TCS teams subsequently worked on the project at a rapid pace.

IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu said Telangana had competed with five other states to secure the project.

TCS CEO K Krithivasan said the project would advance the company's “Infrastructure-to-Intelligence” strategy by combining AI-ready infrastructure with its cloud, engineering, enterprise transformation and AI capabilities.

“Hyderabad offers the scale, talent and ecosystem to serve global customers,” he said.

HyperVault AI Data Center Ltd MD and CEO Deepesh Nanda said the company was building infrastructure focused on higher-density computing, liquid cooling, larger power blocks and faster deployment.

“Hyderabad gives us the foundation to build that at scale for frontier AI companies and hyperscalers,” he said.
