NSE ends strong 2025 with Rs 469 lakh crore market cap, 9.8% Nifty gain

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended 2025 on a strong note, reporting sustained growth across equity markets, fund mobilisation, investor participation, and global operations despite global economic headwinds. Stock markets in India remained stable during the year.
According to NSE’s Annual Highlights for Calendar Year 2025 (data up to December 19), the benchmark Nifty 50 index rose 9.8 per cent during the year from 23,645 at the end of 2024 to 25,966 while the market capitalisation of listed companies increased 6.8 per cent to Rs469 lakh crore. The market cap-to-GDP ratio remained steady at 136 per cent. This shows continued confidence among investors and steady wealth creation.
Fund mobilisation through equity, debt, and business trusts grew 7 per cent year-on-year to Rs19.17 lakh crore. Equity fundraising stood at Rs4.12 lakh crore, while debt mobilisation touched Rs14.72 lakh crore, up 10 per cent. The year saw 101 mainboard IPOs raising Rs1.71 lakh crore and 112 SME IPOs mobiliing Rs5,589 crore, with Maharashtra, Delhi-NCR, and Karnataka leading in mainboard listings.
On the global stage, NSE retained its top rank in equity derivatives trading, accounting for 53.2 per cent of global contracts, and stood second in new listings with a 16.2 per centmarket share. Corporate bond trading also surged, with RFQ segment turnover rising 52.6 per cent.
The exchange’s investor base expanded to 12.4 crore, up nearly 14 per cent over 2024, with 1.5 crore new investors joining during the year. Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu contributed the most to this growth. Since April 2020, household wealth in Indian equities has grown by Rs53 lakh crore.
NSE International Exchange (NSE IX) also posted robust performance, crossing the $1 trillion mark in notional turnover for the first time. The GIFT Nifty recorded a cumulative volume of 22.5 million contracts, translating into turnover of about $1.1 trillion during 2025.
